Through the orphancoalition.org alliance nonprofits with whom we work, we support orphans and abandoned children in many countries around the word. We define an orphan, for the purposes of our giving, as a child whose parents are both dead and/or who has been abandoned by his or her parents and has not been adopted by another family.
The orphans we support are truly alone. They have no one. No love, no hope and no care of any kind. They have no one to protect them or to look out for them. These are the children we seek out and support. Finding them is not difficult. There are more than 140 million such children in our world today.
We support orphans on an individual basis as well as in groups through orphanages and children centers.
We do not support children in poverty or otherwise if they live with their mother, father or adult family member. There are many organizations that support children in poverty who are not orphans. You have to be an orphan to receive our support. However, we have yet to find one rich orphan who needs our help.
Of course, nearly all of the orphans we support are below poverty levels even by third world standards. Many would literally starve to death without our support.
