Our assessment showed the orphan children at this home to be happy, but somewhat malnourished. They were burning trash as a fuel source and we consider this home to still be at a critical stage! This facility is located in a slum in a village 15 kilometers from Mombasa. This is a coastal area in southwest Kenya. There is much poverty in this area. These children have lost their parents because of diseases like AIDS and malaria, or they have been abandoned because their parents cannot afford to provide for them due to the economic problems in the country. They do not have a good, safe water source at this time, nor indoor bathroom facilities.
