The children in this facility come from the slum areas of Madurai, the 2nd largest city in the state of Tamilnadu. Some have been abandoned by parents too poor to provide for them, others orphaned because of HIV/AIDS. Some of the children have chronic health problems. Director Gnaniah is the only orphanage director in the area willing to take in children with these types of problems. The children are happy and well adjusted. They attend schools that are within walking distance of the home and appear to be doing well in their studies. They are happy to have a safe place to live and good food to eat.
