Tiyamike Mulungu Children's Home - Malawi |
|
Many of the children in this facility were orphaned when their parents died from illnesses such as AIDS, hepatitis A, typhoid, malaria or plague. Others were abandoned by parents who are so poor they are unable to provide for their children. Most of the children were malnourished when they came to this facility, some had been surviving on one meal a day consisting of water lily bulbs. Most of the children suffer from worms, some from malaria or hepatitis. This facility is located in one of the poorest and hottest areas in Malawi. The boys and girls dorms are two separate buildings at this home. They have a thatched hut with half walls for eating and a small brick building for showers and toilets and other small buildings for cooking, medical services, the directors’ quarters, etc.
